  1. Goal Reflections part one!

So I thought I would reflect on my journey having reached my goal.  I get a few people ask how I did achieve my goal in 12 months and after thinking about it I thought I would start making a list of dot points on where I think I went right.  I plan to in the future post where I think I did things wrong as well.

    So here goes:

    • I did not keep my surgery a secret.  I made sure everyone knew what I was going through.  I think this helped because I was honest not just with myself but with others.  I believe also I didn’t have to pretend that I could eat large amounts of food and I just followed my doctors orders with the support of everyone.
    • I weighed in every Saturday morning religiously and I tracked what I did badly if I had a weight gain.
    • I exercised moderately for a min of 4 times a week.  This usually was walking.
    • For the majority of the weight loss I did not drink alcohol at all.
    • I gave up bread and pasta.
    • I did not drink my calories, I stayed away from Protein shakes, up and go etc!
    • I went and saw my surgeon every 4-6 weeks and had regular fills.  I was not *too proud* to rely on the surgery.
    • I threw out my clothes as I went.  I did not keep a wide variety of clothes sizes in my wardrobe, when something got too big I gave it away. I think this assisted me in keeping it real when it came to sizes.
    • I used my support network all the time.  Whether it was a diet whinge, a medical question or just sharing success I made sure I communicated the good and the bad with my loved ones.  Thanks to those people!
    • I shifted my goal posts often.  My original goal was 70kgs and I am now 56 and happy with where I am.  I made sure I didn’t settle for being overweight!
    • I did not give up the food I loved! I just ate smaller portions.

So there is my reflections so far.
